Jim Connolly, the Sheffield legend, has cemented his place in the Sheffield art scene. His instantly-recognisable comic book style designs have been used for album/single covers, concert posters, and magazine articles. His style features loud and brash bubblegum colours and comical characters usually drawn with a sharp vectorized look. Sheffield artist Matt Wood has a unique and exciting talent, he paints with his finger and thumbs!
This is not finger painting as you would imagine, this is far more advanced. Matt’s unique technique meas he can create ‘photo-realistic’ paintings with just a board and some Dulux paint. Matt has never formally studied art, but has always been interested in producing images and art work that would reflect his passion for sport, music and film.
Matt first realised his talent when he noticed how bare the walls of his first year halls of residence bedroom were, and he didn’t really like any of the posters on offer. His father works for a sign business, so Matt used materials that his father had at home to create his first few pieces of artwork.
After creating a few, Matt’s friend were asking him to paint for them, and even offering to pay.
To date he has commissions from the likes of Chris Martin (Coldplay) and Harry Redknapp, and has recently completed a piece for Louise Redknapp, wife of talented ex-footballer Jamie Redknapp, of their son Charlie.
With his thumb print as his signature and such a unique talent, it is well worth snapping up a limited edition print before they sell out.
